Weekend Family Events for October 19 & 20

I’m a little later than usual getting this list posted this week as it has been a very busy one for me. The Ottawa Butterfly Run is on Sunday and I have been part of the organizing committee working hard over the last seven months to put it on. So forgive me for the late post! Just a note that Fall Rhapsody is on once again in Gatineau Park, you can read my guide to that wonderful event here. Also, apple picking is still on at Mountain Orchards if you haven’t had a chance to go yet…or if you are looking to go again! Here is the rest of what’s going on for families on the weekend of October 19 & 20.

Saturday:

  • Fall Market at the Barn – The Barn, Stittsville, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (dozens of vendors for this family friendly market)
  • Creative Arts and Preschool Open House– 174 First Avenue, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (meet the teachers, find out more about programs, preschool aged children can enjoy a guided craft activity, school age children can do an art project)
  • Halloween Event: Everything Pumpkin – Osgoode Township Museum, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (Includes pumpkin carving, pumpkin treats, and pumpkin juice, $20 per family)
  • Annual Costume Swap – Dovercourt Recreation Centre, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (Donate your gently used and cleaned costume in exchange for a different costume. You can drop off your costumes at the Customer Service desk anytime between Oct 1- Oct 19 to receive a coupon for the swap.)
  • Head Safe Event – Scouts Canada National Office, 1345 Baseline Rd, 9:30 am – 1:00 pm (free fun activities and a free bbq lunch to celebrate the new Head Safe Program. Experience adventures for all ages – including head injury prevention, head related first aid awareness and concussion simulation. This community event is open to the public upon registration)
  • Maman Chic Fall Pop Up Shop – British Hotel, Aylmer, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (find beautiful maternity, nursing and womens clothing)
  • Family Fun Day at Queen St Fare – 170 Queen St, 10:30 am – 1:00 pm (free event, Sing Song Party Time performance, games, customizable pizza and donut station!)
  • Pumpkinfest – Proulx Maple and Berry Farm, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (wagon ride through the mysterious forest, Face-painting, Hay structures, tree house and slides, several giant outdoor play parks
    mazes & corn field mazes) 
  • Haunting Season – Saunders Farm, 10:00 – 6:00 pm (hedge mazes, haunted house, haunted hayride, jumping pillows, play structures, puppet shows, food and more)
  • Nature Days – Lac Phillippe, Gatineau Park, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm (guided hikes, demonstrations with birds of prey)
  • Carleton Place Pumpkinfest 2019 – Carleton Junction, Carleton Place, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm (hay play structure, pumpkin photo booth, costume dance party, food vendors and more)
  • Halloween Dog Parade – Dovercourt Recreation Centre, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (There will be prizes for best costumed dogs, celebrity judges, silent auction, food and drinks, bouncy castle, doggy photo booth, vendors, and, of course, the Parade of Dogs. )
  • Incident at the Bunker: A Zombie Adventure – Diefenbunker Museum, 1:00 pm onwards (Guests will be led on an interactive adventure with the undead, deep inside the labyrinth that is the Cold War Museum. This unique Halloween experience is a perfect combination of storytelling, interactive challenges,)
  • Fairbairn Heritage Harvest – Fairbairn House, Wakefield, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Learn more about local products, and enjoy watching various demonstrations and performances)
  • Fall Festival and Pig Roast – Ashfield Farm, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm (A fun free event featuring fall farm festivities such as pony rides, petting zoo, games, face painting and more! Pig roast and autumn treats available for additional cost.)
  • Ottawa Fire Truck Pull – Lansdowne Park, 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm (watch teams try to haul a 10+ tonne fire truck 100 feet)
  • Family Adventures: A-BACH-CADABRA – National Arts Centre, 2:30 pm (Lively bilingual one-hour performances, it’s always hands-on and fun, recommended for kids ages 5-12)
  • Pumpkinferno – Upper Canada Village, 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm (spectacular display of more than 7000 carved pumpkins, buy your tickets online ahead of time to reserve your night)

Sunday:

  • Camp Fortune Fall Activities – Camp Fortune Gatineau Park, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (enjoy brunch, walk around and see the colours, take a chairlift over the fall leaves)
  • The Ottawa Butterfly Run – Aberdeen Pavilion, Lansdowne, 8:30 am – 11:30 am (5 km family fun run or walk to raise awareness about infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, you can register ahead of time or morning of)
  • Ausome Trot or Treat – Terry Fox Athletic Facility, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (free fun filled day in support of Ausome organization, walk the track, have lunch, trick or treat through fun activity stations)
  • Chillings Estate Halloween Party – Billings Estate, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm ( family-friendly Halloween celebration! Kids and their family are invited to dress up in their costumes and help us put the ‘trick’ in ‘trick-or-treat’ as we explore the whimsical, wily, and sometimes troublesome history of Halloween pranks)
