Weekend Family Events for September 14-15

It is a great weekend to check out a local fall fair, or hit up an apple orchard. Let’s take advantage of the warmer September temperatures while we can. Here is my guide to the best family friendly events for the weekend of September 14-15.

Saturday:

  • Impulse – Sparks Street, 8:00 am – 10:00 pm (an interactive work of art consisting of multiple seesaws that activate with light and sound. Fun for all ages, the units of light and musical tones are activated by the public)
  • Ottawa Senators Fan Fest – Canadian Tire Centre, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (free admission, kick of the Sens season by watching a practice, getting autographs, prizes, and more)
  • Outgrow Outplay – EY Centre, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (admission is $2 plus a non perishable food item or $4 otherwise, huge kids consignment sale with toys, clothes, strollers, baby gear and more)
  • Boucher Forest Festival – C.P. 25, Aylmer, Gatineau, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm (all ages, everyone welcome, hike with the birdwatchers club, free BBQ, storytelling, face painting, rock painting, crafts, bouncy castle and more)
  • 1860s Fall Fair weekend – Upper Canada Village, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (enjoy musical and magic shows throughout the fair grounds, old fashioned fun and games, village fair treats)
  • Ottawa Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show – Nepean Sportsplex, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (over 60 dealers and exhibitors with gemstone, minerals, fossils, crystals with demonstrations and hands on activities)
  • Indofest – Canadian Museum of History, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm (free admission, food, vendors, live entertainment)
  • The Zoo Crew Drop-In – 1817 Richardson Side Rd, Carp, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm ( Meet and interact with furry, feathered, scaly and shelled friends. Short shows start every hour with new animals coming out between shows.)
  • Orleans Ribfest – 255 Centrum Blvd and Plaza, 11:00 am – 9:00 pm (ribbers from across Canada and the US, kids fun zone, contests and more)
  • Sing Song Party Time at City Folk – Mrs. Tiggy Winkles Bank St, 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm (Derek McKinley promises a fun live musical show for all ages)
  • Aladdin 3D – Ottawa Family Cinemas, 2:00 pm (live action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic)

Sunday:

  • Outgrow Outplay – EY Centre, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (free admission, and half price sale with toys, clothes, strollers, baby gear and more)
  • Family Yoga – Old Ottawa South Firehall, 9:15 am – 10:15 am (class is for children ages 3-8 and an adult participant, register online ahead of time)
  • 1860s Fall Fair weekend – Upper Canada Village, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (enjoy musical and magic shows throughout the fair grounds, old fashioned fun and games, village fair treats)
  • Fairfield Heritage Harvest – Fairfields Heritage House, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (Learn how to press apple juice, churn your own butter, construct a cornhusk doll, and more, plus a petting zoo)
  • Ottawa Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show – Nepean Sportsplex, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (over 60 dealers and exhibitors with gemstone, minerals, fossils, crystals with demonstrations and hands on activities)
  • All Aboard Sundays – Cumberland Heritage Village Museum, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm (Experience model steam trains and learn about railway operation and history.)
  • Orleans Ribfest – 255 Centrum Blvd and Plaza, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm (ribbers from across Canada and the US, kids fun zone, contests and more)
  • September Princess Story Time – Indigo Barrhaven, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm (special story-time with Little Mermaid! Everyone welcome. No registration required.)
  • Apple Pie Fest and Classic Car Show – North Lanark Regional Museum, Almonte, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (enjoy a slice of home baked apple pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream while checking out the classic cars. Tickets are $10)
