Weekend Family Events for August 10-11

This summer is flying by. Have you been checking things off your summer bucket list? I still have a lot of things I want to do! There’s a lot of fun to be had with this list of family friendly events for the weekend of August 10-11

Saturday:

  • Carp Garlic Festival – Carp Fairgrounds, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm (more than 100 farmers market vendors, food court, cooking demos, garlic competition, garlic taste testing, kids club tent and live music)
  • Navan Fair – 1279 Colonial Rd, Navan, 8:00 am – 11:00 pm (midway rides and games, cattle and horse shows, truck and tractor pull, live music and more)
  • Arnprior Fair – 74 Van Dusen Drive, Arnprior, 10:00 am – midnight (ultimate horse show, midway, petting farm and pony rides, vendors hall and food)
  • Summer Family Mornings – National Arts Centre, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (free activities, games, musical guests and more, for children of all ages. )
  • Sifting Through History – Pinhey’s Point Historic Site, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (Did you know Pinhey’s Point is an active archeological site? Participants of all ages are invited to get their hands dirty and take part in a dig. Admission by donation)
  • Great India Festival 2019 – Ottawa City Hall, 11:00 am – 11:00 pm (free admission, free parking, indian music, dance, entertainment and food)
  • The Fifth Annual West End Food Truck Rally – 3861 Old Richmond Rd, Bells Corners, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm (Food trucks, family entertainment, and collecting food and funds for the FAMSAC Food Cupboard)
  • Summer Fun Day – Kingsmere Park, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm (people in the area are invited for this neighbourhood fun day with a bouncy castle, ice cream truck, face painting, bbq, swimming and games)
  • Storytime at Rideau Hall – Rideau Hall, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm (Frontier College’s volunteers provide books and other materials and hold a variety of different activities. Free activity)
  • Smiths Falls Pride 2019 – town hall Smiths Falls, 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm (enjoy the parade which leaves the town hall at 5:30 pm, mini drag show and potluck supper)
  • Casino Lac-Leamy Sound of Light Fireworks: Chile – Bytown Museum, site opens at 6:00 pm, fireworks start at 9:30 pm (August 10th will feature the Pirotecnia Igual Sa’s (Chile) theme “Dance for the World.”)
  • Capital Pop Up Cinema: Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure – 280 Beechwood Cemetery, Beechwood Ave, 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm (free outdoor showing of this classic movie)

Sunday:

  • Navan Fair – 1279 Colonial Rd, Navan, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (midway rides and games, cattle and horse shows, truck and tractor pull, live music and more)
  • Arnprior Fair – 74 Van Dusen Drive, Arnprior, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (miniature horse show, midway, car cruise, petting farm and pony rides, vendors hall and food)
  • NOKIA Sunday Bikeday – Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway, Colonel By Drive, Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (car free roadways to enjoy on your bikes)
  • Sunday Toddler Time: Touch a Tractor – The Log Farm, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (This special Touch a Tractor event is for all ages, however the program is geared towards children 0-6., get up close and personal with a big tractor and meet the animals, $6 admission, There is also a BBQ serving hotdogs and sliders)

  • What is the weather? – The Cumberland Village Heritage Museum, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (Learn weather terminology, create a cloud in a jar, build your own barometer, and more. Join us at the museum as we bring science to the farm with a day of fun for future meteorologists)

  • Ottawa Champions Baseball: Champ’s Birthday Fundraiser for CHEO – 300 Coventry Road, 1:35 pm – 4:35 pm (Enjoy a vamped-up Family Sunday baseball game, featuring activities for kids, a performance by Tyler’s Amazing Balancing Act, and a visit from Champ’s mascot friends)
  • Zumba on the Hill – Parliament Hill, 4:00 pm (free outdoor Zumba class open to all ages)
