Weekend Family Events for March 9-10

Temperatures are looking much more reasonable for this weekend’s forecast, which is good timing to get the kids outside as it’s the start of March Break! Here is your list of family events and activities for the weekend of March 9-10.

Saturday:

  • Spring Break at the Museum – Canadian Museum of Nature, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (get up close with live animals at the Survival of the Slowest exhibit, wander through butterflies at the Butterflies in Flight exhibit, see a 3D adventure movie)
  • Barnyard Break – Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm (included with admission fee, baking with maple syrup, demonstrations, story time for children at 11:30 am, crafts, maple taffy on the snow, Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre on hand for learning and demos)
  • March Break: Brain Boost – Canada Science and Technology Museum, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (included with admission, hands on coding event where you can make your own digital games using simple coding programs)
  • March Break: Your Place in Aerospace – Canada Aviation and Space Museum, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (included with admission, daily demonstrations and guided tours, explore different careers in space and aviation)
  • Awesome March Break – Canadian War Museum, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (family friendly tours, use Imagination Playground blocks to create, challenge your family to a game of giant chess, learn to play strategy board games with a variety of classics.)
  • Mermaids and Pirates Party – Carlingwood Mall, 10:00 am and 1:00 pm (tickets are $10, learn to walk, talk and dress like a pirate or mermaid, make a pirate hat, eye patch or mermaid gear, earn gold coins by playing carnival games and follow the map to treasure…tickets are limited and can be bought at guest services)
  • Superhero Week – Hazeldean Mall, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (cartoons from 10-11, the Spider Superhero training from 11-11:30, meet and greet and take your own photos from 11:30-12)
  • Maslenitsa – Horticulture Building, Lansdowne, 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm (free admission to this Slavic Spring Festival, ethnic concert, traditional foods, handcrafts and sweets available for purchase)
  • March Break Fun – Goulburn Museum, Stittsville, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm (kids can come play in the General Store and at the craft corner they can decorate a wooden yo-yo to take home)
  • Mexican Kermesse – Parroquia Sagrada Familia, 152 Glenora St, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm (mexican market with tacos, gorditas, bingo, face painting, arts and crafts and a kids show)
  • Animal Tracking on Snowshoes – Gatineau Park Visitor Centre, 10:30 am in French, 1:30 pm English (Snowshoes are provided for this free, two-hour activity. Make sure you dress warmly for an outdoor activity. Recommended for children of age 8 and older.)
  • Spider Man into the Spider Verse – Ottawa Family Cinema, 2:00 pm (Oscar winning animated family film)

Sunday
