Weekend Family Events for January 26-27

How’s everyone surviving January? I admit, so far it hasn’t been my most favourite month. It feels like every weekend so far has been the COLDEST ever! Here’s hoping this weekend improves a little, because there is so much fun stuff going on around the city. So, here is your list of family friendly events for the weekend of January 26-27.

Saturday:

  • Shiverfest – Manotick Village, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm (pancake breakfast at the Arena Kiwanis Hall, face painting and stories, horse drawn sleigh rides, hot chocolate, check schedule for more)
  • Winter Weekend in Greely – Greely Community Centre, 8:30 am – 1:00 pm (firefighters pancake breakfast until noon, sleigh rides and a firefighters vs police hockey game at noon)
  • Artissimo Studio: Clay Creations – National Gallery of Canada, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (create creatures, bowls or even fridge magnets, for children ages 3 and up)
  • 7th Annual Carleton Place Winter Carnival – Carleton Place Hockey Arena, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (free event, obstacle courses, games, entertainment, music, horse drawn trolley rides, warming zone, merchant market, face painting and more)
  • Winter Fun Day at Lac Beauchamp – parc du Lac Beauchamp, Gatineau, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm (inflatable structures, horse drawn carriage rides, camp fire, music)
  • Kilt Skate – Lansdowne Park Skate Rink, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (don your tartan, kilts and skates and come out for some fun)
  • Winter Fun Day – Briar Green, Leslie Park, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm (skating, sledding, maple taffy and a bbq lunch)
  • Glabar Park Winter Fun Day – Kingsmere Park, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm (campfire and marshmallows, skating, snowball fight, hot dogs and hot chocolate)
  • Carnaval de Cantley – 8, Chemin River, Cantley, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm (inflatables, human bowling, zumba, food, and more)
  • Whitehaven Community Winter Carnival – George C. Brown Park, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm (chili, hot chocolate, sweet treats and more)
  • Glow in the Dark Slime Making – Oh So Good Desserts and Coffeehouse Westboro, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (10 year old Kalise will be showing kids how to make glow in the dark glitter slime, all supplies included, buy tickets online at eventbrite for $18)
  • Westboro Beach Winter Carnival – Westboro Beach, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm (bonfire, marshmallows, cookies and hot chocolate, bring your sled)
  • Animal Tracking on Snowshoes – Gatineau Park Visitor Centre, 10:30 am in French, 1:30 pm in English (snowshoes provided for this free two hour activity, recommended for kids 8 yrs old and up, reservations recommended)
  • Carnav’Hull 2019 – Parc Fontaine, Gatineau, 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm (free skate, hockey, yoga, entertainment, food)
  • The Borrowers – Ottawa Family Cinema, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (enjoy this family film while at a pyjama party, wear your pjs and get a free gift)
  • Winter Carnival – Dovercourt Recreation Centre, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm (sleigh rides, skating, sledding, bonfire and food in the lobby)
  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone in Concert – Canadian Tire Centre, 7:30 pm (enjoy the movie on the big screen while the National Arts Centre Orchestra plays all the music)

Sunday:

  • Awesome Music – Canadian War Museum, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (activities and performances involving music, try out different instruments, musical themed crafts)

  • Winter Fun Day at Lac Beauchamp – parc du Lac Beauchamp, Gatineau, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm (inflatable structures, horse drawn carriage rides, camp fire, lumberjack demos)
