Horseback Riding with Royale Equestrian Centre

My three year old is super into horses right now – horses and dogs. She has been asking if we can get one of each…and much to her disappointment, we are not getting either (not right now anyways, I would love to get a dog someday). But, my daughter did receive more than one adorable toy dog for Christmas and now she can proudly say she’s at least been horseback riding.

I am not an experienced horseback rider. I’ve only been a handful of times. But, I know what a wonderful experience it can be and I really felt like horseback riding was something both of my kids would enjoy trying. So, I was excited to learn about Royale Equestrian Centre, located along Woodroffe Avenue, just before you reach Fallowfield.

This welcoming family-run farm houses 60 animals, from 40 horses to little farm animals. It is owned and operated by Emily Bertrand who opens her gates for birthday parties, lessons (both recreational and competitive), fundraisers and therapy programs.

All of her horses were adopted for their calm dispositions to accommodate child riders.

In addition to regular lessons and camps, Royale Equestrian Centre often hosts special dates and times when they are open for one hour one-time lessons, as well as public horse and pony rides.

I jumped at the chance to sign my kids up for the one hour one time lesson – where they would get a chance to ride a horse, learn a few commands, play a few games and learn how to brush and care for the horse too.

Both of my children were a little nervous getting on the large horses for the first time. But, the fear soon passed and big smiles broke out on both of their faces as a guide helped lead them around the ring.

The hour passed quickly, and I loved watching them try something totally new and different. They have both been asking to go back (especially my daughter, Rowan). I don’t know if regular lessons are in our future, but I will certainly be keeping a close eye on the Royale Equestrian Facebook Page , where they often advertise special deals and drop-in opportunities.

If your child has shown interested in horseback riding, you may want to consider the Royale Equestrian Centre’s March Break Camp, a PD Day Camp or Summer Camp – all of which are now accepting registrations. The camps are for children ages 6-14 and include daily riding lessons, caring and interacting with all of the farm animals, fun activities, crafts and more.
