Weekend Family Events for December 29-30

Where has this week gone!? I am definitely in that week after Christmas mode where my family has lived in pyjamas for most of the day, and we have no real idea of what day or date it is. This final weekend of 2018 has really crept up on me! If you haven’t checked it out yet, I have done a post on the BEST FAMILY FRIENDLY NEW YEAR’S EVE ACTIVITIES. So, take a look! And here is your list of family events in and around Ottawa for the weekend of December 29-30.

Saturday:

  • Survival of the Slowest – Canadian Museum of Nature, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (second weekend of new exhibition featuring more than 20 live animal habitats. Meet the keepers, enjoy daily live animal demos, $6 plus museum admission)
  • Winter Frolic – Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm (Join us for our 3rd annual Cookie Day to help bake cookies to donate to the Ottawa Mission, also enjoy demos and presentations by the Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre and more)
  • Festival des Jeux de Gatineau – 499 Boulevard Labrosse, Gatineau, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (inflatables, trampolines, rides, tons for kids to do)
  • Sound of Music Sing Along Fundraiser – Mayfair Theatre, 11:30 doors open, show at noon (sing along to this family favourite, $15 adult tickets, kids $12)
  • Rideau Hall Skating Rink – Rideau Hall, 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm (free outdoor refrigerated rink, heritage pavilion)
  • Madagascar: A Musical Adventure – Ron Maslin Theatre, Kanata, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm (based on the smash hit Dreamworks animated motion picture)
  • Cinderella and the Ice Slipper – Gladstone Theatre, 2:00 pm (Ottawa Musicals’ 5th annual holiday musical, Cinderella and the Ice Slipper, kid friendly)
  • Alight at Night – Upper Canada Village, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm (last week of this gorgeous holiday display, take a wagon ride, ride a carousel)
  • Magic of Lights – Wesley Clover Parks, 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm (2 km drive thru light display, buy your tickets online, $20 a car)
  • Christmas Lights Across Canada – Parliament Hill and Confederation Park, 5:30 pm – 11:30 pm (lights along Confederation Blvd, plus 15 minute looped light show projected to music on Parliament Hill)

Sunday:

  • Zoo Crew Holiday Drop In – 5721 Osgoode Main St, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (all ages welcome, drop in price $5 a person, come meet and interact a wide variety of animals, cash only)
