Feeling Challenged and Inspired with The Dailey Method

I am half way through a 30 day blogger challenge with The Dailey Method, and I can tell you I am already feeling a difference. As I sit here writing, I am constantly trying to keep my deep core engaged, my back long, and my shoulders back.

Back in January, after I wrote about where Moms Go to Exercise, I was contacted by Sarah Thompson at The Dailey Method. I had written about the Dailey Method because they offer childcare on weekday mornings, but I had yet to try it for myself. Sarah offered me 30 days free, to see what I thought.

The awesome team of teachers at The Dailey Method.

I didn’t know what The Dailey Method was before this class, but it is a pilates, yoga and ballet barre class all rolled into one. It’s a very different workout than I am used to – with a ton of focus on core engagement and pelvic floor strength. Honestly, it’s probably exactly what I needed. I consider myself a pretty strong and fit person, but I know I need more work on my deep core. It certainly showed in my first class when I was shaking throughout most of the hour from muscle fatigue.

Since that first shaky class I have tried my best to attend a Dailey Method class three times a week (which is what is recommended to see the best results). A little over two weeks in, and I can’t wait to see how I feel at the end of the month.

Why The Dailey Method is Good for Moms

After having a baby, most of us moms find our core and pelvic floor is often in need of some serious rehab. Then, there is the bent over, child carrying, breast feeding and computer typing position we find ourselves in basically all day long. The Dailey Method spends a lot of time working on good posture and the strength needed to prevent injury. The teachers are also extremely knowledgeable in kinesiology if you have any abdominal related questions.

And there is childcare! This is the reason I have been able to attend 2-3 classes a week. Childcare is offered every weekday morning. I have been taking both my kids and they have enjoyed their time. No complaints at all. The room isn’t big, but the women who watch the kids are wonderful. Together, they play with the toys, read books, and even have dance parties (thanks Nikki for that one, and accommodating my children’s weird obsession with Elton John’s Crocodile Rock.)

Something New at The Dailey Method

I will be updating this post at the end of my 30 day challenge, but I wanted to write a little now because if you are interested in trying it out, it’s a great time. Next week, The Dailey Method is expanding and opening Dailey Cycle.  The Dailey Cycle promises to focus on alignment and body sculpting with the cardio benefits of indoor cycling…I’m intrigued!

It is actually opening on February 16 and from the 16th to the 18th all barre, cycle and yoga classes are FREE. So it’s a great time to check out this Glebe fitness hotspot. For more information check out The Dailey Method Ottawa.
