The New Science and Technology Museum Has Something for Everyone

After three years of construction and rebuilding the Canada Science and Technology Museum is set to open! Last month the kids and I got a sneak peek at the ZOOOM exhibit – a really fun hands on area for children aged 0-8 years old.

We had a wonderful time at that small preview of the larger museum, and today I returned for a media tour of the entire Science and Technology Museum. The museum is incredibly impressive and beautiful. There are 11 exhibitions throughout this entirely accessible museum (so wheelchair and stroller friendly).

I was in awe walking through the Steam: A World in Motion exhibition which featured some massive steam locomotives which you can walk through and explore. There is even a virtual reality cab where you can strap on a head piece and glasses and see how you’d do as an engineer!

Every exhibit features hands on elements for younger kids to enjoy too.

The museum does a great job of balancing more complicated science and technology information and stimuli for older children, teens and adults with hands on sensory exploration for young kids – such as this fun train table and bell.

The Crazy Kitchen offers a retro vibe.

Almost everything in the museum is new, but there are some old favourites returning – like the Crazy Kitchen. It was the museum’s original, interactive experience, dating back to 1967. Today, it maintains the original interior that past visitors know and love.

My kids are going to love all the buttons to push…

The museum’s dazzling centre hall features Artifact Alley, which has more than 700 artifacts on display. Other permanent exhibits include : Wearable Tech, Technology in Our Lives, Sound By Design, From Earth to us, Hidden Worlds, Into the Great Outdoors and Medical Sensations.

These old school Nintendo games were always my favourite!

The Canada Science and Technology Museum also has a flex space for changing exhibitions. There are two on currently, which will run until the end of March. One of them is all about video games and the evolution of video game playing. I know that will appeal to A LOT of older kids (and adults too of course). There is also a car exhibition on, so any auto nuts will want to check that out.

The Science and Technology Museum is one of three Ingenium museums, which also include the Agricultural Museum and the Aviation and Space Museum. A membership will get you into all three museums. I just bought our family a year membership and I know we will be visiting plenty during the upcoming long and cold winter months. If you’re interested in purchasing one of your own, head to their website HERE.
